Pricing and licensing
We license organizations based on the number of users. Multiple-user licenses must be coordinated by a single License Administrator to receive the volume discount. Each user may install the software on multiple locations for a single person's use.
The academic license agreement includes the following provisions:
Licencing Policies 1. Sawtooth Software licenses are sold by the number of users. Each user may install the software on multiple PCs in multiple locations for a single person's use. Users do not need to be working from the same location. Each user should register online with Sawtooth Software to receive technical support and update notifications. 2. Licenses are transferable between users within the organization (after a year transpires from acquisition of the license, and thereafter once per user per year), as long as the License Administrator notifies Sawtooth Software and the replacement user registers online. 3. Every additional user after the first (of the same software component and system size and version) managed by the same License Administrator is charged at 20% of the initial price for CiW and Ci3 systems, and 30% of the initial price for all other systems. After 40 users (of the same software component and system size and version) managed by the same License Administrator, additional users are charged at 10% of the initial price for CiW and Ci3 systems, and 15% of the initial price for all other systems. 4. All users are entitled to free technical support. For academic lab licenses, technical support is offered to one contact person representing the school. 5. Upgrades (both of system size and version) must be done as a block, for all users of a particular software component organized under a single License Administrator. 6. All purchases of software after May 1, 2005 are under the per-user licensing and pricing policy. Upgrade credits for earlier versions still apply (limited by the restrictions of the previous "Category" license). The only exception is system size increases for old "Category style" licenses within the same version (such as upgrading from ACA/10 to ACA/30), which may continue under the previous "Category" policy and prices. 7. Users with old Category-type licenses for current versions of software may elect to transition currently licensed users to the per-user policy by paying a 25% transition upgrade fee based on Category I pricing. For example, transitioning 7 CBC/Web users of the current version to a per-user license involves a transition fee of $5,000 x 0.25 x 2.8 = $3,500. (2.8 is the multiplier corresponding to the first user at 1x plus 0.3x for each of the additional six users.) Transition from "Category" licenses to per-user licenses is limited by restrictions of the previous Category license. 8. For existing users who do not wish to upgrade, we continue to support their old licenses (our track record has been to support older versions in terms of bug fixes for around 3 years and to offer technical support for often 10 years). 9. For Client Conjoint Simulators (CCS), a single licensing fee ($200) covers an unlimited number of users within the licensed organization. 10. For academic lab licenses, a single licensing fee covers the licensed school. No upgrade credits are offered for academic lab licenses. |

becomes a walk in the park. Using lists and skips, it is very powerful at the same time."
